West Kowloon spends ten days in November on the harbourfront — jazz indoors, jazz on the grass, and a breeze off the water. The eighth Cathay • WestK Jazz Fest is the biggest yet, and the first to run across two weekends. More than a hundred players, visiting and local, spread over the Xiqu Centre, Freespace, Wonderland, and three lawns. Ticketed rooms and free stages sit side by side, so you can leave a seated concert and end up on a picnic blanket. A few nights worth locking in: Diana Krall opens at the Xiqu Centre Grand Theatre on 13 Nov. Cory Wong shares a bill with harmonica player Cy Leo on 15 Nov. Stacey Kent plays two sets at Freespace on 17 Nov. Kenny G closes the festival at Wonderland on 24 Nov — his first Hong Kong show in 18 years, and WestK’s first collaboration with Montreux Jazz Festival China. Also on the bill: Song Yi Jeon, Francesca Tandoi, Teriver Cheung, and JACE. When the volume is enough, the lawn beside M+ is a free wellness pocket. Slow down, then walk back into it. Food and drink stalls stay open around the art park. 16 and 23 Nov are off.
